About Us

Our Founder

Hi, my name is Ayonna Patterson, I am the founder of AMP Career Events; an organization that plants the seed for Career Exploration in young girls. At a young age, I fell in love with architecture, admiring my grandfather’s projects.

As early as eight years old, I remember being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. When I was in the 5th grade I participated in the only career fair held throughout my school years. To this day, I remember the speakers. My passion to educate children on all possible career opportunities came from my personal experiences. Although I distinctly remember the career fair, I also remember the lack of career fairs and exposure to a variety of careers. I believe it is important to continually introduce students to career options at an early age.

AMP Career Events’ mission is to plant the seed of Career Exploration within Science Technology and Math (STEM) careers among girls between the ages of seven and nine. Most career exploration programs target ages 12 to 18.

AMP Career Events believes that early career exploration is crucial in inspiring girls to dream big. AMP Career Events believes it is important to provide knowledge of a variety of career options, such as; Architect, Scientist, Engineer, Coder, Radiologist and beyond. Our goal is to encourage and cheer these young girls on, while promoting STEM careers using small group mentorship workshops.

“What do you want to be when you grow up, Ayonna?” I remember being asked this question as early as second grade. From an early age I was enamored by my grandfather’s architecture projects. However, it took me awhile to realize my passion. My exposure to career options were very limited as a child, apart from the one Career Day event in fifth grade.
Recently, more girl empowerment programs have emerged. However, the lack of opportunities for career variety still exists, especially in underprivileged neighborhoods.
